A readers thank you to authors

I've got to thank all you authors here for writing stories for people to read. Even to the authors who's stories I don't like or don't read. I thank each and every one of you.

You are able to get your ideas from your mind to the keyboard and that is not always an easy thing. It takes a LOT of time, effort and patience! I've tried before to write but my ideas have a very difficult time making out of my head lol. I'm trying again with an idea I've had for a very long time but who knows what will come to my keyboard.

So authors I thank you for the tremendous time and effort you put into your writing and hope you will keep on writing your stories for people to read.

Why thank you, sunseeker. Though, I've got to say, the editors deserve much of the credit too, as much of our work would be utterly unreadable without the tireless work of editors who help cover our (author's) many inadequacies.

I have no idea if you ever read (or liked) anything I wrote, but it's nice of you to let authors know they're appreciated. Thanks for that.

As to writing — just do it. If you don't like what you wrote, try to fix it. If you can't, throw it away and start over. It's a skill that can be learned. Start with short stories so that you'll finish quicker and, if you throw it away, there's not much investment. Listen to feedback, but don't worry about the scores.

Like many others I write because I want to write. I appreciate it when readers let me know they like what I write, so thank you. I also appreciate it when readers let me know I have an error in a story so I can fix it.

Thank you. A verbal (or typed, in this case) sign of appreciation is powerful, as we tend to work long hours, with nothing but grief from those around us, many of whom don't even know what we're working on. Scores alone aren't nearly as powerful. In my case, as an independent-publisher, money speaks, even in very small sums, because rather than simply numbers, it means that people are willing to put their own income into the game, showing they think the stories are worth what we charge. But for many authors here, the ONLY payment they receive is from reader comments, and those are fairly rare (in my case, it maxes out at 3%, and often dips way below that).

Writing is an incredibly lonely occupation, and people tune out when you say "I'm working on", and it gets worse when that same claim continues for months or even years. So a simple thanks, or an insightful question, makes up for a lot of emotional abuse (self-inflicted, in this case) suffered over the years.

Agreed; In addition I have sent a few messages to authors for introducing me to musicians, even recipes I would never otherwise have never heard of

I particularly appreciate the vocabulary, turns of phrase, witticisms and insults. It's nice to have fresh ammunition when dealing with the world at large while the stories provide a pleasant escape from it.
