Libre Office html output

rustyken 🚫

When moving a LO document to html format, LO offers two options. One is File>SaveAs>HTML Document (Writer) (.html). The other is File>Export>HTML (.html; .xhtml).

The output is NOT the same. The first provides a document in html format. The second provides a document in xhtml format. From my perspective the LO documentation was not clear on this difference. Depending on end use the difference may not matter, however it does for Bookapy submissions. In that cases I learnt that I needed to use File>SaveAs>HTML.

So forewarned is forearmed.

Cheers

@rustyken

I am a bit rusty. I have been editing older versions of my posted chapters, as well as writing new chapters. Using LibreOffice.

When I save I am given options of: Save as "LibreOffice Document" or Save as "Microsoft Word 365 Document"

Any suggestions on what works best on SOL?

I will use your advice if I ever post a completed novel to Bookapy. However, for now I am just posting chapter by chapter on SOL.

I recall that I had some issues with one of those versions. I have moved, and a bunch of other stuff resulting in more than a year of not posting updates to my story. I plan to get back to it soon-ish. I would appreciate not having to re-post multiple versions. Thanks for any advice.

Check the Authors/Editors page as there is a guideline for submission format. I've submitted in both odt and html (file>saves) with not issues. I only ran into issues when I used export from LO.

@rustyken

Before I started posting on SOL, I copied the Submission Guide, and keep it as a Word (now LO) document on my laptop.

However, when I transitioned to LO, the procedures I used with chapters written in MS Office 365, resulted in some minor, and confusing errors with LO documents.

I keep several Folders from my story (stories), including a Posted Chapters Folder. In it are Chapters in different formats, unfortunately I didn't keep notes on which format worked correctly (they all appear correct on my laptop). I know I had to repost several chapters in a different format, but I can't remember which or why.

These questions are not resolved by the Submission Format Guide.

It may be that I did use Export from LO. I can't remember, and I can not find, or even remember if I made any notes.

I haven't posted a chapter in over a year. I have been going through some chaos, including moving. I haven't been able to unpack the vast majority of my books, as well as many of my binders of notes. I did prioritize and label several boxes with the materials for my current story.

The OP of this topic is addressing issues I had, but can't recall.

I appreciate your input rustyken, it may well be I tried to export from LO, and that caused my issues.

Lazeez posted a reply too that is helpful.

The best option is HTML.

In LibreOffice, click 'File', then 'Save As...'

In the save as dialog, from the 'File Type' drop down, select 'HTML Document (writer) (.html)' and click 'Save'.
