I feel most of us here do want to improve our writing skills which is why there is the Editor system.
I've made a few comments to authors and I've tried to use the Toastmasters method: Commend - Recommend - Commend. Where you start with praising some good stuff, then make a suggestion or two (but not too many) and finish with some general praise.
Also make allowances for different countries: I got NAILED for using "mum" instead of "mom" - guess what, I'm not in America so the comment is pointless.
