The usual human response to somebody else's idea, just because it was initiated by somebody else. In the corporate world it's called the "NIH syndrome"--the letters standing for Not Invented Here." Same attitude pervades politics, and so dreadfully many other areas of human interaction. The view seems to be, If I didn't think of it first, then it can't be a good idea--and if it's not a good idea then I, from my omniscient viewpoint, must do everything I can to impose my view on all about me, even to the point of cramming it down their throats.
