Chapter five is well over 50 pages

Hi there. Chapter five is up. It is over 50 pages of A4 (or about 35,500 words), but here on the website it is 'just' four pages. Some people call that a book. I call it 'just getting warmed up'. Regardless, it should see you through a dull afternoon.

You've all been very generous with your ratings, but I don't get quite as many emails as I used to. I suppose that's to be expected. The kind of people who write in will have done so by now, this being my fifth book on this site. Still, if you spot a mistake, I do appreciate hearing from you. Four proofreaders, all volunteers, went through this book so far. All have left dozens, if not hundreds of mistakes. We're all triggered by different things, it seems. So in the spirit of Smokey the Bear: If You See Something, Say Something.

Proofreader note: That wasn't Smokey, that's the TSA. And it's not THE bear, just Bear.

My new book is starting up: The Most Hated Man

Hi there,

I'm Ron Dudderie. You may have read my books Best Sister Ever, An Audience With Carstairs and And The Winner Is, three stories that have rocked the rankings on this site and others. This book is not part of that series, but a stand-alone story.

Starting up a new story is always exciting, but I've learned to get some things out of the way. First of all, there are invariably poorly spelled death threats from people who are livid that my characters aren't fucking by the third paragraph. Again, I have not obliged. My books stand out somewhat from the usual fare here. When the time comes to whip out Mr. Happy, you'll know. It's not exactly the focus of my stories, either.

Second, when I'm done there will be emails from freeloading pedants who are incensed I have not left up the entire book until it behooved them to get around to it, as their high personal standards prohibit them from reading free porn unless the story is complete. This is then followed by a threat to report me to the site admin and, hopefully, terminal auto-erotic asphyxiation.

Well, that is not the deal I am offering: you get one chapter per week (more or less) and after the last chapter is published I leave it up for a month. That's why it's free.

You can get my books right now at my website, thereluctantguide.com. Each book takes me about six months to write and provides anywhere between 10 and 20 hours of entertainment. Buying it supports my writing.

Grumbling aside, I always welcome comments, corrections on grammar, geography or anything else that strikes you as off and, dare I dream, fan mail. (I do not enjoy hearing from aviation buffs, but there's none of that in this story.) So please, drop me a line via ron@thereluctantguide.com or the comments form on this site.

Fanmail is always nice

Message from: extra.mail.n@gmail.com :

I miss 1 week of your book online and I have to pay? Im already paying for the stories website. how about no.

Also reported your disgusting tactics to the webmaster. may you live long and get cancer.

Formatting errors

You may encounter formatting errors in chapter 31 or any other chapters, where line breaks have disappeared. This makes reading dialogue difficult. Paragraph breaks are always fine. (Line breaks are rendered with an extra blank line on this site, which makes it hard to tell the difference.)

The problem does not lie with me, I'm afraid. Or maybe it does but then I don't know what might cause it: I submit my chapters by copy/pasting my text (from OpenOffice) and at that point it looks fine. That method has worked well ever since I published my first book here. The problem is relatively recent. I have to submit some chapters 2-3 times, sometimes even as HTML, before they look okay. Thankfully processing times here are fantastic. Imagine having to wait another week, like on Literotica (PHTUI!)

Other authors will likely have the same problem, so do let them know.

Final chapter posted. 'And The Winner Is...'

Well, this has been quite a ride! One chapter a week since APRIL. You know, I get emails from people saying: 'I'll decide if I will buy the book once I've read it all.' I do wonder how they managed to read anything before the internet. Big library fans, I should imagine. Anyway, if they all keep their word I'll do very well in the next few days.

Because so many people, both here and on Literotica (PHTUI!), have reached out to let me know how much they enjoyed the trilogy I have written a fourth book in this series. It is called 'The Trials Of Carstairs' and will be out in October. Martin's bizarre wedding and the birth of his son will be exclusive for those who buy the book, so you won't read those chapters here or anywhere else.

I also have a book out called 'The Most Hated Man'. Have you checked it out yet?

If you wrote me an email and haven't heard back, I apologize. Those emails tend to come in groups and as I recently became a father I don't get a lot of time to myself. getting back to them a week later seems silly and vain, so I generally let entropy do its thing and they slide to page 2 and beyond of my inbox. I do read them all and they are what makes writing so much fun, so don't be shy. If you have an actual question I generally do respond, but pats on the back, however much appreciated, tend to go unanswered.
