In Mother Goose, there is a poem you're supposed to recite while touching your baby's forehead, eyes, cheeks, mouth and chin (which, appropriately, is the title of the poem):
Forehead, Eyes, Cheeks, Nose, Mouth, And Chin
Here sits the Lord Mayor,
Here sit his two men,
Here sits the cock,
Here sits the hen,
Here sit the little chickens,
Here they run in.
Chin-chopper, chin-chopper, chin chopper, chin!
Very cute. I've been trying to come up with my own version, which finally came to me in a flash, and which I have just posted.
Gentlemen (and ladies), feel free to use it on your wives and girfriends.
I've added another poem to Madame Jillinghoff's Bedroom Rhymes. This one's called "Two Cherry Pies," and you can guess what it's about. In fact, I think, the whole enterprise has degenerated into an exercise in coming up with clever metaphors for a certain part of the anatomy. First there was the kitty's nose. Now this.
After a weekend of versifying, I'm feeling somewhat bleary-eyed. I think this may be it for a while.
Also finished reading The Real Mother Goose before bed last night. Damn that broad could write.
Nos. 9 and 10 of Madame Jillinghoff's Bedroom Rhymes, titled "Mr. Zee" and "Suzie, Suzie Sleepyhead," are now online. They are very brief.
These little things have been getting me out of bed in the morining. I wake up early with an idea nagging at me, and I lie there thinking about it until it's almost ripe - ripe except for, say, the last few lines or an awkward, problematic phrase. That's when I get up and go over to the computer.
I do hope the inspiration flags soon. I need my sleep.
I've added another poem to Madame Jillinghoff's bedroom rhymes. This one is topical, and not very erotic, but WTF. The poems are a penny each.
And thanks again to everyone who's written. The feedback has been gratifying.
... has been posted in Mother Jillinghoff's Bedroom Rhymes. The title is "Daddy's Girl." This one was a little work, but I like it because it doesn't rely on those damned anapests. Instead, it alternates iambic tetrameter with iambic trimeter, if anyone cares.
And I'm very happy to report the collection of bedroom verses is surprisingly popular, and it has generated an unwonted number of emails. Among the comments:
Many thanks for some light relief and witty smut
on SOL at long last! ... your poems 'tickled'Us so much and We like a laugh now
and then!
a couple made me laugh out loud.
Excellent and fun!
Thank you all for responding!
