I just posted a new story in the Anthem universe called Best of You (yeah Foo Fighters) and is the story of Henry and Cindy. I started writing it after Anthem was completed but put it aside after completing the first six chapters, thinking back on it I am not sure why I stopped. In any case I finished it and here it is. It is a complete story but if there are enough responses there is room for more. Hopefully you'll enjoy it, and of course as always please let me know what you think.
Okay. the new story was posted last night. First response I received, Rene is a guys name, Renee is a girls name. Oh well, at some point I will make the change and repost the story.
So, its not about a dude named Rene. Shit! Pardon my French!
The Story of Renee is going to cover five to six years of her life and will be broken into four stories. The second story is going to cover a small amount of time but large in size, in excess of 90k words. So I am going to change my approach on posting incomplete stories. With the second chapter being as large as it is I will post it in smaller sections, about a month per post in story time. I have two months written in draft, still needs to be edited, the third month is in progress, and the remainder is completed in an outline but I have not started.
The third story will be about her adventures through the ensuing four years. It is not relevant to the core of the story, and I will probably not write everything that I have outlined, when I post the next series I will go into more detail why that is. The last story will be the culmination of her college career and a brief look into her future.
This series is written in the Anthem Universe. Renee will be an important character in the Anthem series, Book III specifically, and though she will not be a main character, she will be integral to Alex.
That's about it. I have been able to put a few words together that don't suck so, hopefully I'll have Henry & Cindy ready soon.
Its been a while, sorry, but real life came crashing in and took up all my free time. Things just got f'ed up and I'll leave it at that. I did try, when I found time, to write, but I found no satisfaction in it. When I was able to put some time together to write it ended up being more of a chore, and it was reflected in what I wrote. After a while I gave up writing any new material and focused on going back to salvage what I had written, the ideas were good, but it was the execution that was the problem. But even then I just couldn't bring it all together. So, those stories I started have have been set aside. For now. I am moving back to a couple of older ones in the hope that it gets me back on track.
So, what's next? Outside of the writing I will be doing some cleanup of the stories I have posted. First, I am going to create a Universe and place related stories into it, specifically, Anthem, The World I Know, The Door Upon Which I Knock, and Hallelujah. Why these stories? Anthem is an easy one, it is the central story that links everything together. "The World I Know" is about Stevie the bully, "Hallelujah" Dr. Manger will have a major impact on Henry from Anthem, and Kirk Cummings is tied to Allie, and "The Door Upon Which I knock" Valerie is going to have major interaction with Alex in a future Anthem story line.
What I have in the works are a couple of stories, the first is about Henry and Cindy and is close to being completed. The second story is about Zahn from The World I Know and is about a third of the way completed. There are several others but nothing really close. In the next week or so I'll be posting a couple stories I have been holding onto, one is a standalone story and the other is the first story in a new series.
Hopefully this will get me motivated to begin writing again.
I just posted a new story, "Periodic Liaisons - 1: The Honeymoon". It is the first of a series following Julie and Brad in an ever expanding erotic couples adventure.
So, why a serial? When I did Anthem I found that I wanted to post each chapter as quickly as possible, which put me at a pace that was difficult to maintain and I felt a self imposed pressure to get each chapter done. So I decided after completing Anthem that all future stories would be complete before posting.
At that time I made that choice I wasn't planning on writting another Anthem sized story. But that changed when I began planning a story that I estimated to be over 200k words. I hit the 90k word mark and began to get an itch to post something. So I had to either rethink my thoughts on posting incomplete stories or write smaller stories.
So, my stories became smaller and I continued the work on the large story. Everything was working great until I got to "Periodic Liaisons". The story expanded as I began writting it, and with one large story in the works I didn't want to start a second, so I decided to continue with the story but do it as a serial, posting segments as they were completed. So, as the name implies, I will be posting to the this serial, Periodically.
I know it's kind of like cheating, it being a Serial, but it is a complete story, so I think I'm still ok. Although just barely.
I am also going to move Animals into this Series, though the characters are different the stories are similair.
It's about time that I talk about where I am with Anthem Book 2. Anthem was my first story and I really didn't know where to begin other than knowing I wanted to write a story. So I decided that I would create an outline for the story I wanted to write, which turned out to be 70 chapters spanning 10 years. A large and daunting task! But I had a start and an end, and with that I began writing.
I completed Book 1 and began writing Book 2, starting where the last ended. The first chapter was completed and it was sent off to my editor, and I began on the following chapters. After having drafts for the next three chapters I stopped because I encountered a problem that I could not adequately resolve.
The problem was there were story ideas within the outline that were not about Alex, but they were integral to his character either directly or indirectly and were needed for the story to continue, at least that's how I saw it. A second problem was when I stopped to work on the first problem I went back to review what I had written and found that the story had gone too dark.
So I stopped and put it down to resolve the two problems, plus a third which was I was also kind of burned out with Alex. Since I wasn't getting anywhere with my problems I put Anthem away for the moment, and decided that I would use a story idea from the outline, that would become The World I Know (TWIK). For some stupid reason I decided NOT to tie this back to Anthem or to the Character in Anthem that the story was about, which is Stevie. It might have done that because Stevie was a bully and if you knew that going into the story, you might carry the prejudices that can go along with it.
After TWIK was posted I decided that by taking ideas from the Anthem outline I could solve my first problem by writing the side stories before tackling Alex. And with most of Alex's friends, his neighbors the Millers, his Parents, and a couple other characters that have been or will be mentioned in the stories coming up, there are a lot of stories to be written.
So Anthem is not forgotten, but it will be presented in a different way and I plan on creating a yet-to-be-named Universe to place the Alex related stories in.
Another reason that I decided not to continue with Alex as the main character is because I wanted to write something different, and each of the stories I've written have been unique. TWIK is a story with a Twilight Zone feeling. My next story, Animals was my attempt at a Stroke story. Hallelujah came from the movie Crash, different people with different stories coming together due to a single event, as well as the song Hallelujah. And finally, The Door Upon Which I Knock (TDUWIK) was started in anger, and kind of finished in the same way, but for different reasons.
I final thought as I close this blog, the only reward I receive are the responses you send in, which I consider a payment for the time and effort I put forth for the story. So, please send feedback, but if you hate the story, please be gentle;)
