Incest is a taboo for four major reasons. The first is the genetic aspect. Individuals who are close genetically and have children increase the changes of those children having birth defects from recessive genes. While this is less of an issue with modern birth control, the risk still influences our cultural thinking.

The second is the Westermark effect. We appear to be psychologically wired to not find people we grew up in close proximity with to be sexually attractive. This means that something quite unusual must have occurred for people to be interested in pursuing a sexual relationship when they know each other well.

The third reason is power dynamics. All close blood relationships have power dynamics at some level mixed into the relationship. Furthermore, these dynamics cannot be simply dissolved. One can quit a job, one can break up with a boyfriend, but one’s sister will still be one’s sister even if there’s never any contact again. When power dynamics mix with sex, the possibilities for abuse abound.

Finally, the need for secrecy causes challenges. Even if the sex itself doesn’t cause issues, the need to keep it secret from the world at large can distort the lives of those involved.

Given these potential issues in real life, fiction is a much better place to explore the taboo. The reader can play with the ideas and enjoy the relationships and the sex while knowing that nothing bad happened to any actual person.

I realized that I hadn't be using the "Favourites" option that authors have (look up at the top of my author page). Since I'm starting to focus on inc (see my reamstories blog post), I figured I should also start calling out the stories I happen to like.

This, of course, will not be a quick exercise, especially if I write a few sentences on each one. But it's started now.

Why Write Taboo Stories?

What’s a taboo?

Something that society would be really upset if we did it in real life.

This makes fiction the perfect place to experience it. We can fight a war, stalk a murderer, or fall in love with the wrong person and no one actually gets hurt in fiction.

That extends to sex. In fiction, we can read about characters doing things we wouldn’t dare do in our regular lives. That includes breaking society’s rules. Furthermore, that element—that “breaking the rules”—can add an additional erotic charge to the act.

A couple having sex in their bedroom can be hot. A couple having sex on the fifty yard line of the high school football field can be hotter. They’re breaking the rules.

I personally find that erotic charge from rule-breaking to be fascinating.

I like reading about it. I like writing it.

Which brings me to incest. It’s the one major taboo still imposed by society where all partners can clearly consent. If adult family members want to have sex, what’s stopping them? Only the sense that it might be wrong. That it’s taboo.

This conflict forms the core of a good taboo erotica story. The characters know what they’re doing. They know it’s considered wrong by society at large. They’re going to end up doing it anyway. The specifics make it interesting and possibly arousing.

Yeah, it's been a year. A long year. But I'm back to writing and will be releasing chapters regularly.

I've opened up an account on Reamstories (https://reamstories.com/bigedmagusson) They're like Patreon except they allow incest stories. I'm going to post my stories there first, at least three months before they appear here (and they will appear here after that). The first chapter of the first story (What Happens in Europe) is up and chapter two will be released Friday.

After the first story is out, I've got two more already done and through editing. I've also started a large saga, but it's not quite ready for prime time. ;-)
