Preface

The story in the original manuscript of ‘Best Friends and Lovers’ began way before the little group of friends reached the age of eighteen. When I decided to publish the novel it turned out that anything written about them when they were younger simply didn’t meet with the guidelines set by most publishers. I thus began the main book on Toby Adamson’s eighteenth birthday, but of course a lot of the history that already existed between the best friends was lost.

The wonderful people at Storiesonline seem much more relaxed about what can be posted and that has encouraged me to publish something now that I am calling ‘Best Friends and Lovers - The Prequel’, covering a particularly important summer in 1966, some two years before the main book begins, when Andrew Stevenson got together with the lovely Emma and despite his best efforts, Toby Adamson failed to persuade Natasha to fall for him.

I hope that readers of the main book will find that the prequel is good fun too and that it will answer some of the questions that they may have had while reading the early chapters of ‘Best Friends and Lovers’ which have already been posted.
