Chapter 11: Union

As the days turned to weeks the refugees moving into the battleground states started to dwindle. Miles was the first one into Cheyenne, at the head of a column of frightened civilians. His group quickly distanced themselves from the city and set up a fort within sight of the urbanised area

A few days later came newly appointed commander Ryder and co-commander Helman at the leaded of a mechanised force of survivors from Austin. They were battered and bruised but did not show any weakness as they rolled in. Ryder took his men to Miles' fort and reinforced it while Helman moved to the fore front of Cheyenne

For a number of weeks the command structure was in tatters and the various forts broke apart from each other then developed loose alliances with the capital city in the centre. This created a political situation as the Exclamber seemingly lost their fire for advance and simple skirmished along the borders having being beaten back during a full scale attack.

Miles took the helm in politics and created an alliance with several forts and a close relationship with the city as others around the state did similar. Ryder simple wasn't interested in politics and took the lead militarily in the alliance, leading skirmish raids and coordinating defensive actions.

It wasn't until the arrival of the Washington National Guard and Genette that things started to change. Genette took the reins forcefully and proclaimed herself leader of the fortress state. This kick-started a political thrown down which stretched tensions

Eventually the iron woman won the battle and gained control of the state but this was just as the Exclamber started their real pushes into the states around the US. The big battle for human survival was coming it appeared and humanity was poorly equipped to deal with it.
