Meredith Lightfoot -- wife of Seth. Author, writing as Mary Alice Kingsley, of old west mystery/thrillers.
Steven “Strongbow” Lightfoot -- 4 year old son of Seth and Meredith.
Sgt. Det. Robert Maxwell -- Pa. State Policeman
Sgt. Beauregard Robinson -- a black man, former Army Military Police. Wounded in the shoulder. Now working for the Wharton (Pa.) Township Sherriff’s office.
Deputy Dave Arnholt -- Wharton (Pa.) Sherriff’s Deputy. Romantically involved with Amy Swenson, daughter of the Sherriff.
Sheriff Archibald Swenson -- Wharton (Pa.) Sherriff.

Ellie, Kola -- female wolves.
Tars -- mated to Kola. Male wolf.
Hesh -- Alpha wolf of the local pack.
Marty & Artie -- brother Peregrine Falcons
Skree -- a haughty red-tailed hawk. Jealous of the falcons for their speed of flight. She is a bigger bird than the falcons, and is very proud of her distinctive plumage.
Ard -- a bat.
Devourer -- a great horned owl.
