~~ November/December - Weeks 48 to 50 ~~

It was a hectic three weeks for the crew of the Fortune.

Tahoora and Esky were back on board for the last week as was Nick and Sung. They were busily getting the cargo on board and Esky was getting the rundown on what was involved in running this ship. In between, they were interviewing the new crewmembers.

Unbeknown to the potential employee’s Lee, Sean, Tony or Kyle sat in on all their interviews. They had even vetted the applications before they even got that far.

They had thousands of applications before they even docked. Lee had posted the website as soon as the Fortune had got close enough to Earth to connect to a relay satellite. The applications were still coming in when Fortune left.

The potential employees had to submit a resume for themselves and their families. They had also been asked to provide a short video including their loved ones and had to answer a list of ten questions that they were supplied.

In between the visits to the UN meetings, the three dads had been put on the selection committee for the positions Lee and Sean had asked to be filled. They created the Delta Employment Agency and staffed the offices with sixty workers to help them.

Their workers sorted the applications into the database on the server that Kyle and Lee had given the Dads to be populated. Iran and Ivan had happily set it up in the offices they supplied. It linked into the new satellites to the ship and the bigger server at Robert’s place.

There were three parts to the database. The first section the workers saw and populated held the generic information. Once this was filled, Kyle’s program infiltrated the security and education networks of the countries they came from.

It populated any criminal information and offences and cross-checked their education, medical and employment records. It also searched the net servers for any information posted about the application. If there were information out there in the digital world, Kyle’s little worms, found it.

The applicants were then flagged depending on suitability against a list of criteria in the database. Green got to the next level. Blue was a possible. Yellow a maybe in a pinch. Orange was little chance, and Red was not a hope in hell.

Red may even have the data that was collected anonymously sent to the appropriate agencies for an investigation into the person. A lot of government agencies around the world were running around trying to work out why their people were being rejected.

Every person they had to apply for a job on Utopia, Harmony or the crew received an email saying, “Better luck next time, ‘the agents true name’ Don’t fuck with Wizards or Dragons,” and an animated icon of Drako blowing flames was in the corner.

Note: Drako couldn’t actually blow flames, and neither did his family, that’s a myth.

Several countries complained quietly to the Australian Government that the employment agency Robert was operating had illegal software and wanted them investigated.

Considering they were benefiting from the information being sent to them on people who were potential threats and agents from other governments, they offered platitudes but did nothing. They too had received their fair share of ‘return to sender’ messages from Drako.

However, they also had received a message from Robert informing them that their cooperation in this matter would be appreciated. As it was, they were the one nation with the largest representation on both planets and the Wizards Council.

This information wasn’t lost on the Australian government. They had also determined that they had been offered probably one of the best blocks of land being beside Clarksville. They did not intend to rock Lee’s boat.

Peeved, the other countries agencies tried to get their best hackers to penetrate Kyle’s system. Two, an American guy and a Chinese gal actually managed to get through two layers of firewalls.

The next day they each got a visit and a job offer by Troikas Incorporated. Both accepted and found themselves and their immediate families on the Armstrong Space Station boarding the Fortune the next day.

For many of the agencies, it wasn’t until the second week, or so when they got the message ‘Don’t fuck with Wizards or Dragons’ and they found leaked documents with the dragon logo attached on the net. They also found the little dragon embedded in a lot of files, which should not be accessible under any circumstances.

Also, several of the powers to be, found new documents about themselves attached to an icon on their desktops containing information they didn’t want to become general knowledge. So, the attacks were called off.

Their attempts to subvert people who they did find had accepted jobs also found brick walls. Every employee had been tagged on accepting the job offer. They were warned it was a condition of acceptance in the original job offer.

The agencies soon discovered that the tags were designed to protect the crew and new personnel from people like them. They always got an email or text message from Drako if they tried to approach them in any way.

The new crew were told their personal lives wouldn’t be monitored. However, their location and communications while on Earth would be for their protection only. All the current crewmembers also had the tags. Troikas Incorporated also tagged their people. If they didn’t like it, they could leave.

Some people worried about them for a few weeks. They soon forgot about them or at least stopped worrying, as nothing seemed to happen. Troikas Incorporated, however, did lose about twenty personnel who refused to be tagged and left or suddenly quit with a little help afterwards.

The permanent crew of the ship, now numbered forty-eight. The Engineering crew was reduced to thirteen including the original crew that came back. Helm reduced to seven including the three Army boys since Esky was the new Captain and Nads and Barry wanted to stay on the crew of the Fortune with Mary.

As they were all Australian Army, Colonel Flag made sure their releases were not a problem. He also organised their replacements to go to the Ulysses. They were on the Warship Diana that had already left in week two after the arrival of the Fortune.

It was also agreed two new Lieutenants, Jaimia Kim and Tane Tong were added as the permanent Security crew on Fortune as part of the UN commitment to police ships going to Delta.

People similar to them would be put on any ship in future leaving to go to Harmony they would stay under UNSEC’s payroll but had B&C accounts too. They had decided it was a wise precaution with so many civilians on the ship.

Hydroponics was reduced to four, including Mary. Tahoora and five other scientists also became permanent crewmembers. The kitchens had six workers and cleaners were increased to five. They included one permanent doctor being Dr Hill, as he wanted to stay on board. They had to find a sociologist, a nanny and a nurse for the ship.

Except for the chooks, the milking goats and the camla, they only planned to have livestock for transport, as all other meat would be chilled. So, they only added one new vet to the crew. As one of the scientists was on-board to study the new reptilian chooks and the camla, she also agreed to help the vet. Plus, they had Nick’s new vets and ringers to help on the trip back.

Some of the new crew wanted to leave their families on Earth, and others wished to resettle them on Harmony. The trips only took three Utopian weeks and layovers in the future were to be allocated at six to eight days. The crew members that were not travelling with their families would be away for seven weeks then home for a week. In most cases, they picked single people.

Since the permanent crew was reduced, they had no compunction in packing the new employees for Delta into the ship. Most of the crew had moved out of level two on the trip out so it could be stripped and redesigned.
