1: Aftermath by Al Steiner This is, I think, the best post-holocaust story I have read. Al Steiner writes about trauma and adversity like no one else and this story has plenty of that. The reader is taken on a journey through a world we would all hope never to see, but can't help imagining how we might deal with. There are great sex scenes, interwoven with a great story. There is drama, tension and suspense. There is a final battle, superbly described both from a tactical and emotional perspective which serves as a fitting climax to the story.
2: Greenies by Al Steiner As I write this 'Greenies', by Al Steiner is sitting at number two in the all time great list, and deservedly so. There are two main thrusts: the exposition of an idea for running a society (in this case on Mars), and an account of the struggle to achieve it. There are political and sociological ideas to ponder and the mother of all battle/war descriptions (even better than 'Aftermath') to round it off.
Do.Not.Miss.
3: The Preacher Man by hammingbyrd7 What can I say. If the Devil is in the Detail, then there are lots of devils in this story. I can't help but marvel at how this story is crafted: the writing is good, the world (a future Earth) is both stunningly different and eerily believable, and the journey of the protagonist is phenomenal.
