I read a story once about a woman who when was young was chosen to be sacrificed to the god of harvest or something like that. She grew up, left the village, married and had children, but she had promised to return to be sacrificed when her time came. Her husband tried to stop her but in the end he was the one chosen to wield the knife.
I'm trying to find this story, but are there any similar stories? TIA
