Suicidal mc

kungfufool45 ๐Ÿšซ

Are there any stories where the mc is a young guy who's decided to unalive himself but he hasn't attempted to yet? Like he has every intention to make his addition to the male suicide rate but he finds a really good reason not to. Or maybe he is at that point with the knife (or gun) in hand but someone swoops in and not only saves him but gives him purpose as well.

I can vaguely remember a story entitled 'And a Half'. I can't remember who wrote it ;-)

A man stands on the edge of a bridge in the pouring rain, ready to end his life in the river below. Suddenly a vehicle is forced over the banister he's holding onto. He's thrown into the river along with the vehicle and its three occupants. What happens next will change many lives forever.

While not exactly what you asked for, Deja Vu Ascendancy is about a teenager who commits suicide but ends up in dimensional transfer of his mind to another version of himself.

A search for 'suicide' in Story Description turns up 38 candidates. A few of them are really great stories. Here's a sample that might fit your criteria.

This is a great story though the main MC is a girl.

Ginny's brilliant. She's also rich. With her brains and her family's financial resources, her future is unlimited. So, why did she just try to kill herself?

Big brained girl can't handle the social isolation of being the school genius. Tries to kill herself, wakes up in hospital. Cute guy who only used her to get assignments done is an orderly in her ward. Helicopter parents are annoyed that she had pulled them away from work with her drama. Shrink is the first person to actually look and listen for years. Believable plot, relatable characters, believable dialogue. Lots of Feelz. Its Don Lockwood.

The complete opposite. No redemption, no forgiveness, MC driven over the edge. Very well done, but bleak.

Not quite a young guy, but the MC in Jay Cantrell's Death and a Life in Emerald Cove has the gun in his hand and a tarp laid out to catch the splatter when the image of his neighbor's face keeps him from pulling the trigger.

Don Lockwood's 'Finding a Place' has some of what you're looking for.
