American Teen by Aaron Stone

This is a wish fullfillment story about growing up in the early '80s. Think Stupid Boy without sex. Those who squick on kids having sex don't have to worry. The MC is a good christian kid. He'd love to have sex but he knows he is too young. So you can ignore the codes, they aren't for sexual activity, they are for the relationships he forms with his chaste mini-harem of girlfriends. Kisses and cuddles are as far as it goes. All adult sex is off screen.

The story is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for those from that era. It has it all. Garage bands & Atari video games. Burroughs and Heinlein. TRs-80s and Apple IIes. Journey & Bruce Springsteen. Small town politics & vile gossips. Evil school administrators, favorite teachers, racial tensions & sexual harrassment. Learning about responsibility and accepting others. Babe Ruth baseball. Lots of Babe Ruth baseball
There is enough drama and tension to keep things interesting.

Is it realistic? Nope. The MCs dad is Atticus Finch reincarnated, his grandfather is Daddy Warbucks and at 15 he has multiple teen girls pledging to him for life and adult women wishing he was older.

Is it fun? Yes. And thats what counts.

A lot of plot threads are left incomplete at the end, waiting for book II, which, per the authors blog, may be some time off. With 40+ chapters in the first book its worth reading as a stand alone.

I rated American Teen as Very Good. Currently it has a score of 8.15.
