I'm looking for stories in which the mc is forgotten or is treated as an outsider by his family. He eventually does something that elevates him in status and they come begging for his forgiveness. I prefer if the thing he does to elevate his status is the main part of the story and the family's forgiveness is secondary. it doesn't matter if the family is forgiven or not I just want them forgetting him to be a driving force for him doing the thing that raises his status
There was a rather good one suggested on the forum recently, but I can't find the author or the title. The son has a valuable patent stolen from him by his father, but he eventually gets revenge on his family by rendering the patent worthless and dodging at the last minute the patsy they set him up to marry. Hopefully someone else has a good memory.
