Hi
The premise would be: Astronauts in the ISS or similar witness Earth being destroyed by nuclear war/zombie outbreak/pandemics. After losing contact with ground control and having their oxygen depleted decide to go down in the reentry vehicle and face whatever awaits them.
I think this premise has already been used, so I'd like some suggestions to read.

This does appear in Lucifer's Hammer, but the Skylab occupants do not make a difference to the post-disaster population, except as a symbol of lost capabilities.

The crew left on the ISS had to abandon the ISS and try to come down to a post-apocalyptic earth.
It starts in Vol.3 "Islands of Rage and Hope" with chapter 9.
