Well, since the SeaBees started in WWII, you won't find anything on the topic from before then. But yes, some good stories about the battalions would be enjoyable. They were definitely some of the 'we the unwilling..' in many instances, and they pulled off some truly heroic performances in the course of their work. There is a reason that as a group they have so many medals that have been awarded for 'above and beyond.'
PS: I kinda get a kick whenever I see SeaBee Battalions mentioned, since SeaBee is an alliteration of the abbreviation CB, which of course is Construction Battalion. So SeaBee battalions is really Construction Battalion battalions. I know, I'm just weird.

I have a buddy who is a plumber, and he has a real thing when somebody calls and says their "hot water heater" is busted. He loves getting into arguments with them, saying there is no such thing.
After all, why would you have something to heat hot water?

Maybe they use hot water to heat their rooms?

And fine, that is what a water heater is for. But does not explain why you would heat water that is already hot.

power plants do it all the time. The heated water takes less fuel to turn back into steam.
Engineers... I have meetings with engineers on construction projects all the time. I love saying "We could put a cold water heater here". They about pee themselves with mirth when I do. I deny them their 'gotcha' but impress that I'm not a complete idiot at the same time.

The point was, they have a heater that uses hot water.

Aside from questioning why a contractor would stay in business by antagonising potential customers...?
The term "hot water heater" does have a kind of twisted logic.
It heats water that goes to the "hot" tap. One could question why anyone would want a "cold water heater" connected to the "cold" tap.
Tap being the correct term for a faucet.

Because all of his work is commercial. He does have the name in the phonebooks however, and sometimes people call him up after a bunch of plumbers have told them no (generally wanting said heater replaced that day).

A lot of times they were just construction workers that ended up having to fight, so that's why they became official, so they knew HOW to fight.
I have a relative that has spent three tours in the sandbox with his SeaBee unit.
