Try Shaddoth's various works.https://storiesonline.net/a/shaddoth

Also have a look at the Magic & High Fantasy tags. I recommend DeeBee's Hidden Heritage series. https://storiesonline.net/s/20103/hidden-heritage-i-the

'Super Powers' & 'Aliens' are just atheistic reimagining of magicians, angels and were creatures in a modern setting. Elf rings are now star gates, Elves are now Greys, etc.

@kungfufool45

Pretty CAPable - MC is essentially the illegitimate love child of Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne, but behaves more Ghost Rider/Red Hood/Saint of all Killers.

Comic Book Hero (on GMW's site) - standard 'guy caught in lab explosion'

many ESP/mc stories if you consider Prof X or Phoenix to have superpowers...

Midnight: The Beginning (A Worlds of Light Story) by Sea-Life and it's follow ons MC is female but male superheroes are there as well https://storiesonline.net/s/53735/midnight-the-beginning

@grandad_rufus

Those were already included in the superhero tag, tho. OP wanted stories without that tag. (I checked before posting, otherwise I'd have included those.)

Here are a few that came to mind.

Mushroom has a couple, with Bohica being a good read.

Shaddoth has Biomancer, which I really liked and The Smith which was pretty good too.

Dominion's Son has Son of Chronos which is darker.

Starfleet Carl has a two book set called A true History

Don't they all have the 'Superhero' tag?

The OP asked for stories without that tag, otherwise I'd throw in one of my own favourites, 'Chances Are...' by Stultus. ;-)

ETA - surely Magic is a superpower. I can strongly recommend 'Magic 101' by Reluctant_Sir ;-)

I'm pretty sure Doc Strange would kick the ass of anyone who claimed otherwise. Mostly metaphorically.

I completely misread the OP, sorry about that @OP.

You might try the MORFs Universe. Involves bodily transformations that vary from person to person some of which fall into the super human category.

https://storiesonline.net/universe/337/morfs

'Massive Ontogenetic Regulation Failure Syndrome' or MORFS for short, was originally launched on the world's population by means of a genetically engineered virus. It had been started as an attempt at a biological weapon by a group of terrorists back in the early 2000s. The virus spread unnoticed across the globe. All life forms that experience some form of puberty were affected. This virus altered the strand of DNA that is supposed to protect and regulate the integrity of an individual's genome. The mutated portion essentially disables all or part of that activity, thus allowing many other mutations and gene swaps to appear and survive. This altered DNA was passed down to all subsequent generations and now each child is faced with the chance of undergoing life changing mutations in their teenage years. Some victims become human/animal hybrids. Some gain special powers. Some even change sex or become both at once. Some even get a combination, but most show little or no change.

One place you can look is under "fan fiction".

You best bet is probably to do a search for "hero", and start from the oldest stories. "Superhero" and "military" are both tags that were added later in 2005, so many of the oldest stories will simply not have it unless the writer went back and added it at a later date.

2000 parents were asked their most desired superpower:

1) Invisibility 39%
2) Flying 36%
3) Time Travel 30%
4) Teleportation 28%
5) Super Strength 27%
6) Healing Ability 24%
7) Telepathy 22%
8) Super Speed 20%
9) Never Feeling Tired 18%
10) X-ray Vision 15%

It was a snippet in a crappy tabloid so don't blame me for the percentages exceeding 100%. The study was by "Vitabiotics Wellkid Vitamins and Marvel", if anyone cares to look it up.

That totally makes sense. I can see them allowing multiple selections and parents wanting more than 1 out of that list.

Demigod by Vax might be something the op would enjoy. Also, The Amissum Codex by A Acer Custos. It's primarily mind control so if the op has a problem with that he might want to skip it.
