I absolutely love G.Younger's Stupid Boy series.
Can anyone recommend stories with the main character who is a good person and sees greater and greater success?

Golfer's Dream.
The Dman series.
Most of Lazlo Zalezac's longer stories, especially Emend by Eclipse.
Phil Brown's Second Time Through series - note it's unfinished and unlikely to ever be finished
Most DoOver stories follow this pattern.
Reluctant Sir's Dark Days stories...

Er, the main STUPID BOY character is a sociopath.
However, just about anything by FantasyLover fits your description.

My latest offering is about a rapist. Who, in a way, is also a therapist. Don't bother reading it, it was written as an intellectual exercise.

I had a project that was similar. Although it's about a actual therapist who, in a way, employs a (highly skilled) rapist.
Sociopath? I didn't see that when I read the first story. Maybe that develops over time?
If he wants psychologically unstable, the Kenny the Kansan series would probably work for OP.

so•ci•o•path (ˈsoʊ si əˌpæθ, ˈsoʊ ʃi-)
n.
a person, as a psychopath, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
While many may consider him having loose morals, he does have a personal moral code that he does his best to follow.
Look up his statement in church regarding the virginity pledge, his explanation to the young child of the difference between giving and charity when outfitting the youth group for their ski adventure
And while he is a teenager, with all that entails, I can't think of a single occasion where he has not accepted responsibility for his actions.
Remember, he is the protagonist of a teen fantasy sage.

That's why so many readers enjoy the story. But if you look at the main character through an objective lens, all his social relationships come across as false and affected.
