Perhaps the planetside sections of Flight of the Code Monkey (not yet finished), which seem to have an Indian (feather) bent.

Dead-tree "My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George. I actually saw it mentioned somewhere in this forum and read it and strongly recommend it.

My story Backcountry is set in seventeenth century but has Indian survival skills in the middle bit

Out of curiosity, what did you research for those bits?

There are several contemporary accounts by Europeans that are accurate. There is a YouTube channel called Townsends that publishes some of these diaries and regularly reads excerpts. A very very good channel.

The accounts I've read from the 18th century feel more politicized, and by the 19th century you really have to try to interpret the truth by considering the motivations and bias of the writer. I think the earlier accounts are much more objective.

The story arch in backcountry is silly, and the attitudes and values of key characters is very modern, but the surviving, hunting and farming parts are, if not plausible, at least as possible as I could make them.

Townsends is also a brick & Mortar supplier/outfitter of clothing and supplies for historical re-enactors, theater, film producers, etc. specializing in the 18th century & Revolutionary War.

Their YouTube channel also demonstrates many 18th century cooking skills and authentic recipes. They also demonstrate craft skills such as how to build and use an earthen oven. Fascinating stuff and an excellent resource.

It read like a Iroquois/Algonquian amalgamation to me. Still, it was a good story. Thanks for the reply.

More Algonquian than Iroquois; at least, that was the intention.

There is a book by W. Ben Hunt

Native American Survival Skills by W. Ben Hunt

Overview: W. Ben Hunt, whose Sioux name was Tasunka Witko, traveled throughout the Midwest, living with several Native American tribes, finally settling near the site of the last Sioux uprising. Here he provides step-by-step instructions and exact dimensions to make Sioux ghost shirts, Plains Indian shields, box traps, Iniut snowshoes, and more. From making rawhide to putting the finishing touches on a pair of moccasins, beginners and seasoned woodsmen alike will enjoy making the tools and camp equipment that were used for centuries. Native American Survival Skills is a remarkable source of information about the Americans who first pioneered self-sufficient living. In it, there are lessons for all of us today.

No, that's the noble Chinese art of creating pandemics in their equivalent of live bushmeat markets.

I can be relied upon to suggest topical changes. There were a couple of Presidents named Bush. I can't recall anyone accusing them of being crafty.

There you had to go and step in that big steaming pile of politics. Now go out and clean that stinky mess off your shoes before coming back into the room.
