Older average man 50+ ends up with a harem of women mainly just because he is one of the good guys.
Don't want a quick read. I am looking for a story with good character build and loving romance.

@qqqq
I don't think any of the protagonists in Florida Friends are over 50, are they?

Well, we know Steve enlisted right out of high school, or 18. Add two years for training, etc., before he went to play in the sand. So at that point 20. We don't know how long he was there before he was wounded, but it probably took a year for healing and rehab. Minimum of 21, more likely 23 or 24. Add another year for welding school, and five years working on the oil rigs. That puts us around 30.
It was a year or more before Kathy returned. I would guess Jake Jr. to be about ten at time. So it would be about eight years before he enlisted, and then another two before shipping over to the sand. That puts Steve at around 40. That takes us up to 'S & S Nerd', with 'Chuck and Lisa' after that. So if Steve isn't fifty he has to be pretty close to it.

Yeah I read the prologue of the first story just now, and he should be a little over 29 years old when the prologue ends and the story starts. It was while since I read it, so I'll take your word for him being around 40 at S & S Nerd. However, I stand by my point that it's probably not what OP is looking for. 14-15 long stories in, and Steve still isn't 50+. It was my understanding that OP wanted to read something where the guy is 50+ from the offset, not eventually approaching 50 by the end of the series. If I recall, most of the stories about Steve takes place when he's in his 30's.
It's a great story and I think it fits the "average man ending up with women for being one of the good guys" (though the "average" about Steve is debatable) and it's a super long series. But I don't think it fills the 50+ quirk very well.

I really wasn't looking at it from that viewpoint. I was just making the case the Steve had to be close to 50 by the last books.

Correct, and S&S Nerd is a professor of many years standing as well.
Check out "What A Neighborhood", by Jack Spratt.
The authors own description:
Don rents an apartment in a less then desirable neighborhood. He meets two young attractive sisters, the daughters of his next-door neighbor and a surprising bond develops. An enjoyable read

He does end up with quite a harem by the end, and is a very good read.
What a Neighborhood is the type of story I am looking for. It was a little heavy on the teen side but I still enjoyed the read.
I'm trying to remember... there was a story where some limey went to space with some alien broad, and IIRC he ended up with a harem.
Also, not sure of the MC's age at the beginning of Ascension of the Alpha Male.
And, while it's archived, I believe MasterPC:The Eclectic Edition would qualify. I don't recall the MC's age coming up at the beginning, but...
And Magician should qualify - the journeyman mage technically was well over fifty before his harem really started to develop
For magician do you remember the authors name? Thanks
There are two stories on SOL titled exactly "Magician".
One by Volentrin (premiere access required)
One by QM.
The one by Volentrin is short, only 12K the one by QM is more likely the on BK69 was referring to.
Correct. I didn't recall the name of the writer, but recognize it just fine. (Also, both Magician and the sequel Mage are well worth reading.)

He had an ex-wife, so he couldn't be too young.
there's one that starts with an electrician who starts with his daughter and her friends and ends up 'owning' an island in the tropics.
maybe someone else can think of the author or name of the story.
I wasn't sure if you were looking for a forgotten story or a new one. Double Take by aroslav is a good long story. The protagonist is 50+, but starting over in high school in his young body, and in an alternate universe. Done to death, I know, but aroslav does it well.
Another addition to this lot is Free Universal Carnal Knowledge by LondonChap.
It's an old story so you need premier membership to access the story.
Would love more recommendations if it's not too impolite to resurrect a dead thread.
