Stories involving 60's and 70's computers

grandad_rufus ๐Ÿšซ

Have just finished Asa Strong's "Bits, Bytes and Life" (elsewhere) and bytemangler's More Than A Stretch! and am looking for similar stories.

I'm not aware of any other stories like those here, but you might want to look at 'The Adolescence of P1.' It is almost a computer generation later, but it has the same feel.

Just to let you know that is a dead tree book. I haven't looked for it online so you may be able to find it. Just not on SOL.

Good luck.

A little later than the 70's but Ernest Bywater has a fun story New World Computing with a wink to big bad MS.

@Keet

This one I have read many times. I am a great fan of Ernest's work

One of the reasons why I lurk in the SOL forums is for discussions like this one.

I really enjoy stories in the vein of @grandad_rufus's request.

There's a Wiki item with more information about The Adolescence of P-1.

ETA: I found several sources with eCopies of this book. I've since "borrowed" it from archive.org for 14 days. Shouldn't take me that long to read it there.

Also a bit later, but the MC in 'A Well-Lived Life' is a computer whiz kid starting with the first personal computers (Apple II and TRS-80) and takes you through the tech of the day, advancing forward to the 'dot com' bubble and beyond. A lot of focus on the tech industry in the second series.
