Tween Girl

PotomacBob ๐Ÿšซ

Looking to read a story or stories in which a tween girl (or girls) (ages 10 to 13) does stuff that girls that age do. I guess maybe that's Middle School years or maybe Junior High.
The Tween girl need not be the main character, as long as the story tells about The Ordinary Life of a Tween Girl.
Given the age limits on SOL, I assume that means Tween Girls would NOT be involved in sexual episodes, but perhaps there'd be flirting, though that is NOT necessary to what I seek.
Are there such stories on SOL (or the sister sites)?

@PotomacBob

I first wanted to point you to the Munchkins (Terri, Rachel and Vikki) in Oyster50's Smart Girls series, they are in the requested age (starting even younger, about 8), but then realized they should do stuff that girls that age do. This disqualifies the Munchkins, because starting as a project to protect their bird feeder from squirrels they finally design and built autonomous robots. That's definitely not 'what girls their age do'.

It's a dead tree book, and might be hard to find, but Candidia Maria Smith definitely Qualifies.

'Emergence' by David Palmar

Sorry, I looked at the original request, and Candidia definately isn't a normal tween, but it's still a good book.

Ironically, the oyster50's Smart Girls are partly inspired by Candy Smith.

"Emergence," by David R. Palmer, is available on Kindle.

Thank you - I've just made it an author's favorite!

@awnlee jawking

you might like 'Once More With Feelings' by The Night Hawk

IMHO, one of the best do-overs on SOL (well, maybe not so H). AJ recommended Bar-Bar's new story. Try her older series "Bec", too. A little older, but still a good read, "Jack and Jill" by Old Fart. And if you try the dead tree stories, add an oldie, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" - great look into a tween girl's thoughts and concerns.

It's a sex-change do-over but you might like 'Once More With Feelings' by The Night Hawk.

Another old dead tree book, but if you've never read The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi (1990) I highly recommend it. It's basically a girl's version of an old boy's adventure style novel like Treasure Island.

In it, 13-year-old upper class Charlotte is a travelling from England to her family's new land in Rhode Island when she gets caught up in a mutiny plot on the ship. She works as a crew member for a time and eventually becomes involved in a second mutiny. Finally getting where she's going she has to adapt to being a proper young lady again.

Googling the title plus 'pdf' will find electronic copies of Avi's work.

Not on SOL that I have encountered.
FWIW in the 70s and 80s my tween sisters were addicted to the Trixie Belden series of books, along with the various interchangable pony club books and series out of Britain at the time.
There is a strong online fan fiction presence for Trixie Belden and various pony club books are still being published, so there is probably something enduring about the tropes in those books.

I have no clue if they show any normal behavior or if they are extreme fantasy on the line of skinny kids reading The Punisher.

You might like to try 'Dilemma' by Barbar (serial in progress). Bonnie isn't the main character but several sections are written from her point of view.

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

Also, the "Little Main" mysteries by B J Morison. Dead tree only, I fear.
