Stories with RVs recommendations

seaotter ๐Ÿšซ

Hi.

As it is not a big thing where I am from, does anyone have any good RV stories to recommend? I find the concept interesting and was wondering if anyone has any good (in their eyes) stories where people are RVing in the tale - as a plot device, background concept, focus etc.

Thanks!

@seaotter

Ted Biker's The Bare Necessities. Motorhome is the British term for an RV.

Thank you for the link.

Indeed a British motor home is another concept that is foreign to me.

I mean, driving around in the (mostly) dreary weather of England? Looking for damp campsites? While drinking tea? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Hmm. On the other hand that is kind of nice. I mean you are driving your hotel room...

You gave no indication of the type of story you prefer, so a selection.

I'm open to anything right now. I have squicks - obvious front-and-center rape threads, gore, bad ends - but I am open to read if the story is engaging.

Thnaks for the two recommendations. Will check it out.

Summer roadtrip was fun.... until the last chapter.

Spoilers ahead:

He literally burned it all down. it seems he lost interest in the story at the end because of the abrupt ending. The ending also contradicts one thing the MC said in the middle of the story (looking back at the picture book sometimes after the end of the road trip, which is impossible because the picture book got destroyed in the last chapter)

Reading your request literally, you could well be searching for those meeting at an RV. In which case a quick search reveals there are probably almost a thousand stories that include, people, mostly military, RV'ing...

@joyR

Yeah there is a thousand stories, but I would like to hear _your_ recommendation. Because a list is without context, and I like to get context before diving into something.

While my and you taste may differ, at least I can grasp why my taste is different by checking out your recommendations and context.

Hence my recommendation request thread.

Blind Sight by Vlfouqet has an unusual motor home.

The "Amost Like a Song" by Heathen57 is largely centered around a motor home. Start with "Wolf Creek Pass".

Oh the Almost Like A Song series.

Saw it when I was scrolling for A Friend in Need. Got to check it out.

Thanks!

A somewhat unusual recommendation ahead:

It is not an RV per se,
but if you have the stomach for it: search for "storybro road trip" They don't have an RV but a station wagon. It is claimed to be a "real" story with certain fictional elements for narrative purpose.
On the road trip the MC (Storybro) goes on a US-wide road trip with his female friends (they are 17/18). Basically, he is an idiot and can't keep his dick in his pants, drama galore.

But it is only the second story.
The first is the "magically lewd sleepover" 2 years before roadtrip where he and his female nerdy friends have a several day sleepover without parent supervision.
Second is the roadtrip
Third is the "good" end and bad end.
Which results in the Ultimate end to the story if you combine the good and bad end.

The story is massive and never had a story such an emotional impact on me like this one.

"Uncle Buck" by Lubrican comes to my mind for some reason.

Edit: Sorry, got lost in the "Uncle Bob" mythos. The title is "Buck Fever".

Renpet's Mollie and the Motorhome is an all-time favorite of mine, but I can't find it on his page on this site.

In my opinion, it's worth searching for.

Google has the link, and it's going into my growing pile to read. Thanks.

Any chance of more RVs in your writing world? :D

It could happen. I've done travel trailers several times, and a houseboat and a sailboat.

How about a guy who wins one of those 'Tiny Homes' in a raffle?

You'll need to look on ASSTR for it. it doesn't meet the rules here. (like so many of his stories don't)

Wes Boyd's Hat Trick also comes to mind. Not here, unfortunately, but on his Spearfish Lake Tales site.

Diversion alert!

Using the 'Advanced Search' facilities, you can type 'RV' into the 'Title' field and specify 'Entire words only', getting precisely two matches.

However, if you type 'RV' into the 'Description' field, there's no equivalent to 'Entire words only', hence no setting that will eliminate stories with eg the word 'survive' in their description.

Have I missed something? Is this a facility that could be added?

I've asked about this myself. It seems the search engine used in the descriptor field takes the space as a delimiter, i.e. you can't specify it as part of the search string. Doesn't matter if you use quotes, they still get ignored. It would be a powerful addition if it could easily done.

A SoundEx search would be powerful seeing as how many search items are misspelled and thus don't return the wanted results. I remember a recent request with the name "Larussk" which should have been "Laruusk". With a SoundEx search that would have been found.

Just to be pernickety, the relevant search concluded with: "The correct name is Laarusk. author: Capt. Zapp Story: The Loser"

Yes, that was my comment.
And I found it with a SoundEx search on my own library :D
