That's a fairly narrow time frame. The Civil War ended in 1865. While ford would not begin mass production until 1913, steam powered automobiles were around by 1878 and internal combustion automobiles by 1885. Electrification of the US began in 1890.

So you're looking at a time frame of just 15, 20, or 25 years depending on how you count automobiles.

Thanks for the note. For my purposes, it doesn't matter when automobiles were invented, as long as they play no role in the story. So anytime between 1865 and 1900 would be okay. Same with electricity. If it's before electricity was begun in the setting of the story, it doesn't matter if Buffalo had electricity.
There must be stories worth telling (and writing) during that 35 years in the East. There are a lot of stories on SOL for the Old West during those same years, and that cannot be the only place interesting stuff was happening. I suspect that there are already such stories on SOL and I just can't find them.
