AI engines for story search

samuelmichaels ๐Ÿšซ

Are there AI engines that allow one to search for stories with particular aspects? A bit like the category inclusion and exclusion search, but with human language interface. So you could say "like story X but with more cowbell"? Or, say "Romantic harem with no more than 3 women between 20,000 and 40,000 words"? Or "popular mind control story with a female controller"?

I know the access to SOL without an account is limited, but ideally it would have be able to find stories on SOL and other free story sites.

ChatGPT successfully recognized a couple stories by Soviet Russian authors I once asked about from quite vague descriptions (marginally better than some of the "lost story" promts here). Then, both of those were successful enough to have been translated into Latvian (and that's how I had read them many years ago).

So as long the LLM is sufficiently massive to retain such resolution and had ingested the texts of your interest in its training data, there's a chance such prompts could indeed work.

Several of the AI engines (ChatGPT and Grok) seem to know many details about my stories.

Do you also post them elsewhere? Somewhere where logging in is unnecessary (I just did a search on Lit and found nothing under your name).

No. Here, Patreon, and BuyMeACoffee, all of which require authentication for (full) access

I think the first few chapters are available without a login, open a private session and you will see what works.

I'm aware, but it knows more than what occurs in the frist two chapters โ€” it knows some of the cliffhangers and even mentions their regularity both mid-story and at the end!

Somebody stole and put them on non-paywall site? The mirror may be gone, but maybe the LLM corpus included it?

Entirely possible, but so is someone putting them on Google Drive or OneDrive and giving Gemini or Copilot access.

Keep in mind that while AI can help you find stories like that, they can also "get confused"and claim give you the description of one story with the title and author of another, or simply mix up multiple stories to get what you were looking for.

or simply mix up multiple stories to get what you were looking for.

That is something which we sometimes see in the "Lost Stories" section here, someone asking for a story but the details turn out to be a mixture derived from two stories.
