I don't remember that one having the judical slavery in it but since I enjoy Tedbiker as an author I will make time to reread.
I remember a story from a long time ago, maybe ASSTR or the Usenet, where a family decided to enslave their underachiever son. They took all his possessions and gave them to his more deserving brothers, left him naked but for flipflops and a collar. He protested but they simply told him that it was for the best, that he would not need to study or worry about a job, just obey his masters. Unfortunately it was never finished.
