Not all, but to my mind most, stories here on SOL feature action or drama of some sort.

If, over your years of reading here, you have noted a tale or three where the author also features more mundane moments in the character's life to add depth to the depiction.

Which authors give you the best sense of 'knowing' the character?

There are many, but I'll first nominate Argon and his Anthony Carter universe.

Cammie Sue — a series by RealLifeDragon
This is the continuing story of how I found Cammie Sue, her family and true love. Of course, this is pure fiction and should be treated as such. Please see the individual books for the codes and the stories for the disclaimers. Also, this series contains the day to day life in the Ozark Mountains of the characters. This is more of a love story than it is a sex story. The series contains graphic sex, but it was never meant to be just a stroke story. Oyster50 has quite a bit of "slice of life" in his stories here. Relatively low drama, lots of normal character interaction.

Gruinard and Grey Wolf as well.

I've been rereading Florida Friends, and I think Dual Writer does this well, especially the first few stories about Steve. They are long stories where each chapter is a single day, lot's of mundane details to make the characters come to life.

I also enjoy stories like this and in my research, found the genre often referred to as :Slice of life". Historically, it became popular with the rising industrial age where people suffered with long grueling days and enjoyed reading about simple lifestyles.

My "Caretaker" novella has scenes of the mundane, as does parts of my larger "Make the Cut" series. It's not for everyone and you have to deal with some complainers who gripe about the slowness or the lack of anything exciting.

Haven't read this but it sounds like it would fit. Just updated today.

The Chronicles of Dan Hayward — a series by Mustang
Follow the lives of Dan Hayward, a fifty two year old widower, and his family as they experience the triumphs and tragedies of daily life. The series covers the Hayward family through late 2006, all of 2007 and filters into 08, 09 and beyond. Dan gets a second chance at love and soon discovers that sex amongst his new family and friends is as common as breathing.

I'm going to add "Intemperance". It's been a while since I've read the first few books, but the latter few have quite a bit of 'slice of life' and family moments.

Perhaps "Human Phoenix" too.

Ryan Sylander and Don Lockwood would also have a lot of content like this.
