2 things I had a problem with the Defenseman was how every woman treated him like shit (excuse my English as I don't speak French.) and he's just like OK with it.
The other thing is and I'm sure I am the only one is he describes hockey as planed plays where to me it is just chaos.
There are planned plays in hockey but they are similar to battle plans...they only last until contact with the defence LOL!
And yes a lot of my fav authors here on sol have male mc's with the same problem 😞

I too always think first of a grassy field when reading hockey. Then I realize the author is a North American and the story's location is in North America and he means ice hockey.
I believe the – hidden – intention of ice hockey and American football is to hurt the players of the opposite team as hard and often as possible and the rules and the protection gear are just there to avoid killings.

Ice hockey isn't just a North American thing. And as for not modifying it with "Ice" all the time, as far as I know, there are no professional field hockey leagues.

there is a field hockey league in Australia butttt..... it's pissant. like so small and unknown that most people probably dont know it exists. i didnt even know it exists. i believe it is either non-pro or maybe semi-pro at best.
Outside of the Olympics, field hockey really flies under the radar here compared to more major sports.

St. Trinian's springs to mind. (Field) Hockey also played at some private schools for boys, and matches against girls schools can be particularly brutal both ways... almost up to ice hockey standards, I'm led to believe.

I believe CC was writing organically (a pantser), and ran out of steam. One of the issues with organic writing is the need to generate conflicts over and over. Some authors can do very well with that, and some jump the shark after a few times.
