New or mistaken identity

Can anyone suggest more stories like A A Nemo's Concordia
https://storiesonline.net/s/73386/concordia

or Jacob's Granddaughters
https://storiesonline.net/s/13087/jacobs-granddaughters

or a search term which can find more?

These sorts of stories have some of the interesting aspects of time travel, a chance to change/improve your future life, but without the need for grey aliens/God/worm holes or other unlikely stuff.

IOW, something that actually might happen, given the right conditions.

How about Gunslinger by The Scot ...

Nit familiar with any of A A Nemo's stories. So based by your 'mistaken identity', Ernest Bywater's Stand in Time might be what you are looking for.

Both of those stories I mentioned are, in my humble opinion, among the best on SOL.

They have good, complex story lines, some suspense, and are not just a bunch of sex scenes glued together, the way so many seem to be.

I recommend you give them a read.

Also, the ones by The Scot and Ernest Bywater are excellent - but both rely on time travel, which is not quite as believable as the possibility that someone could be mistaken for someone else, and could benefit from that situation, instead of from "future knowledge".

IOW, what I'm looking for now is a kind of "fresh start" that doesn't involve time travel.

I've read, as far as I can tell, every time-travel story on SOL.Most of them more than once. It's time for something different.

Thanks for suggestions!

I would recommend the Variation on a Theme series by Grey Wolf.

It's not clear to the MC* exactly what happened. Its a "variation" on time travel. You should read it to see what the author has crafted. It is nearly the end of Book 4, and its not clear what, nor why whatever happened. The MC seeks counseling from a psychologist and a learned minister, among others although the MC starts out agnostic.

It is one of the best written works on SOL, in a technical sense and a well told story. It is also an excellent portraying of the time (1980's).

The Stupid Boy series by G Younger has a young teen about to enter high school who has started to significantly change his life. He is not recognized by most of his classmates, except for a few close friends.

Not a spoiler: at the beginning all you know is he was involved in "something bad" and sent away to his uncle's farm for the summer. His uncle was a guidance counselor* Also, it was not certain he would be allowed to return home.

There are times this series goes a bit over the top. Not so much any one thing, as a totality of things.

Particular things are very believable. Motivations of the characters are believable. If you consider a successful person whose name you don't recognize, and you read a story about them starting their freshman year of high school, it might read like this.

G Younger has several other stories that fit your criteria. Enclave about the son of a Planner for an organized crime syndicate, sent into WitSec. Young Tony might fit too.

Absolutely no time travel nor magic. Just extremely competent and motivated teens.
