This is VERY good story. It's long and filled with battles but there is a hero with issues and he develops and grows as a person as the story expands. He starts as a private, with some flashbacks to explain his past and ends as a Count on a new planet where he and his family are movers and shakers. Most of the combat involves very large armored Mechs which have lasers, missiles, machine guns, and armor in varying amounts. Some can jump and others fly.
I understand it is based on a game some of you have heard of before. The story does not require any familiarity with the game. Its set in interstellar space long after current era. There is so much detail there is no point in trying to give an explanation of what happens in the story. A young man grows up and succeds in his carrer of being a Mech pilot and officer of a mercenary military force. If you like war stories you should be happy with this one.
I am going to give the plot a ten. There are lots of twists and turns and unexpected developments occur with little warning. The technical quality is pretty good, considering the length of the story. I saw a few creative spellings or errors but not enough to throw me out of the story. Lets give it a nine. I try very hard only to give one story a month a ten, and I already used my ten for May, so this is a nine. Six is a C. Seven is a B, Eight is an A. This is an A plus.
Plot: 10 | Technical Quality: 9 | Appeal to Reviewer: 9

The Private by Random Writings is a long, unfinished space opera. Human troops wearing power armour drop into alien held planets to exterminate the xenos. The MC is a convict effectively sentenced to death by combat: he will never be relieved or promoted away from the shock troops. Its one of the most commented about stories in threads discussing unfinished stories. Incomplete but well worth reading.

Mech fighting and dueling from author shaddoth, one of the finest.
Do a 'Forum Search' for Mechs. That should provide you with plenty of recommendations to start with.

It might be worth trying the sister site also, as it's more geared up for that sort of thing.

You might enjoy 'The New Federation' series by Monbade, especially vol 1, 'The Destroyers'.
The three dead tree books/series that come to mind Starship Troopers; Armor by John Steakley; and The Sand Wars by Charles Ingrid (first book Solar Kill).
Now that I think of it these are powered armor not Mecha . . . The Macross/Robotech Universe of books?
the "RIKA" seris b M D Cooper is great. Just finished the last in the series. Try " Rika Mechanised" first. "Rika's marauders" is the full set. Lots of different mechs fighting an interstellar war. only dead tree I'm afraid - try Amazon
Dead Tree (but may be ebook now) Short story.
"Operation Desert Fox" by Mercedes Lackey & Larry Dixon (1993)
A retired soldier is teamed with an obsolete A.I. tank and left to guard a remote world that will probably never be attacked. To while away the hours, Siegfried O'Harrigan, human and Rommel, Bolo tank, practice war maneuvers as if something might happen. It's a good thing they did.
I think it would be better to just post the URL rather than posting a link. If someone is interested they'll go to the bother of typing it in. If they are smart they will copy and paste it.
