Brothers

NC-Retired ๐Ÿšซ

I read, and re-read, a lot of tales here on SOL and its sister sites.

I cannot recall any story that ever had brothers, two or three, that shared the same reality without some squabble.

A conflict for dominance. Murder. Betrayal. And etcetera.

Does anyone recall any tale of brotherly cooperation for the betterment of all in that tale/reality?

Thanks

'Stupid boy' comes to mind without much thought.

There's a story about where the parents were murdered as part of an attempt to gain control of the family farm because of possible oil there. There are three brothers and three sisters in the family who all work together to keep the farm running.

Several of the stories by Ernest Bywater, in particular his Rivers stories have Brothers (and other family members) that cooperate for the betterment of their Family (as in "clan") and their community.

Oyster-50 in his "Smart Girls" Universe has several Brothers that assist their Brothers in achieving happiness, and sometimes in Engineering Projects. More often it is a Sister that helps, but their are Brothers/Brothers-in-Law and "Guys close as Brothers"

So, perhaps some of those stories might be what you are looking for.

Sometimes there are criminal threats, or other dangers, including hurricanes, and such. Most often there are Engineering challenges.

I have read a number of "Engineering" stories. I am trying to find the name of one about star-crossed lovers, they were in ROTC together. He is injured and it ends his military career; she continues in the Army.

Look up: "Army Corps of Engineers" in particular dealing with floods (or a flood) on the Mississippi River. I believe a Brother may be involved in that too.

I think this might be

A Fresh Start by rlfj

is "Do Over" and perhaps one of the best of the type on SOL. The MC has a Brother 2 years younger, and bettering Both of their lives (and the rest of the family) is part of the story.

I suspect you have a different story in mind. A Fresh Start's MC's brother is a psychopath fixated on the MC. Its more Cain & Able, less The Waltons.

Still a very, very, good read.

Radagast, you are correct.

I think I may have conflated the Brother-In-Law, or some other character with the Brother.

I recalled that the MC would often work with loved ones to encourage them to better themselves (and avoid tragic situations that occurred in his previous life), in particular improve their basic health. The MC would often consult with family and friends.

I recalled some aspects of the story, then went to My Library, opened chapter 1 and "confirmed" the MC had a Brother, then posted the link and my opinion.

There is at least one other story on SOL where a Brother improves his relationship with his brother; but it is NOT "A Fresh Star" still, it is a very good story but does not meet the parameters of the OP.

Vikings, also by rljf has several Brothers amongst the "Time Traveling" Vikings set in the "near" future. There is a rather fantastic "Maguffin" but accepting that Huge Sci-Fi aspect, the story is well written, and internally consistent.

I think you might enjoy it.

Loyalty and fidelity are important aspects of the story, so, I think that is why you might enjoy it.

I just re-read a couple chapters of Grim Reaper by rljf
https://storiesonline.net/s/11339/the-grim-reaper-romantic-story
I am going to suggest checking out All of his stories as being Well Written, Tactically & Technically Accurate.

Multiple of his stories have Brothers and other family members that support each other.

Btw: The "Grim Reaper" is story is a nickname because when a younger brother was a toddler he couldn't pronounce "Grahm Reaper" his older brother, and MC. Definitely has WHolesome Brotherly Love and cooperation!

I'll second that suggestion.
Brotherly love & support. Check.
First love is lasting, true love. Check.
MC is not a perfect Marty Sue. Check.
Personality / character development through the stages of life.
It's great.
