I just need a proof reader

Eddie Davidson ๐Ÿšซ

It seems they recently changed the process to find an editor to a long list of people I need to contact and ask if they will be willing to help "Edit".

I don't really need an "editor" - that is a big job.

All I am looking for is a person who likes my stories that will proof-read them either right before I post them or right after I posted them and let me know if they see any glaring mistakes.

I don't care about comma placement and nitpick mistakes as much as I do anything big in terms of grammatical or fragmented sentences. I use a variety of tools to help me edit but the one I need the most is the objective human eye. I can read and re-read but I am so close to the writing that I know what SHOULD be there and I miss it.

I don't want to swap email outside of this site - just a quick proof read is all I need. Any one up for the challenge?

I would just suggest what I do. Go ahead and post them.

I use multiple readings, and Grammarly, and my final check is actually after I post a new story or chapter. At that point, several who have essentially volunteered will send me messages with any corrections or clarifications they think I need.

And the advantage of this is that each of them is also a reader of my work, so they have an interest in the kind of stories I write.

Not speaking down to you at all, but you do tend to write in the more "extreme areas". And just being honest, a lot of editors simply may not be interested in trying to clean up works of that type. From those I have had interactions with, most of the editors tend to be in their 40's and older, and would not have as much of an interest in some of your writings.

Not an attack at all, simply calling things how I see them. But if you post something, at least in my experience it is like "Field of Dreams". If you write it, they will come.

I would have to agree that posting and requesting corrections like Ernest, Fantasylover and a few others do is the way to go. I would like to emphasize to post the request as I for one will not send any corrections or comments that aren't requested.

Of course, the opposite helps also. If you don't want corrections and/or comments say so. I have seen several places and ways to communicate your preferences to your readers. Not sure which is easiest or which is most effective so y'all can discuss it to death and figure it out.

Well, I have a few that send them regularly, and some that do occasionally. And I have thanked them many times in my story comments.

Especially as their corrections embarrassed me into being more careful myself. Now I rarely get more than 1 correction per chapter, as opposed to a page full of them (even more telling in that my chapters are now roughly twice as long as they were 3 years ago).

If you don't want corrections and/or comments say so.

Some authors that prefer no comments from readers don't provide an opportunity for readers to communicate with them.

Thanks for the advice. I had a few folks respond. I still really hate to post something that has some egregious error in it.

Unfortunately, most people seem willing to do it a few times and after that they tend to lose interest. What can you expect for free, eh?

I think that depends on who it is, and how interested they are in the story.

I have a few that have stuck with me on one story for over 3 years and around 200 chapters. So it all depends I guess.

I can recommend TeNderLoin

He'd never touch one of Eddie's stories.

Hell, he made an exception for Lazlo, to edit his stories that had explicit sexual content. And Lazlo's sexual content (other than a number of his druid stories) was almost totally vanilla. (Maybe with the exception of Fat Farm.) Eddie writes stuff too far out there for TeNderLoin.

You could be right, I've not even looked at his stories - had other things to do.

He'd never touch one of Eddie's stories.

I think a lot of people would not.

BDSM, water sports, incest, humiliation, DomSub, fisting, and the rest. Most of them are on the rather extreme side of writing in here.

Can't think of any editors off the top of my head which would edit those.

He uses different names. If he's editing your work and it has explicit content, he specifically asked that the editing NOT be credited to TeNderLoin, but to a different name. (He may be my editor, is why I can say this. :) )

@StarFleet Carl

I don't need a serious editor. Just a proof-reader who can catch any big mistakes in continuity or huge grammatic goofs.

It doesn't need to be at the level of a true editor. Just the biggies and not the small stuff.
