Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Display date format preferences.

warlogae 🚫

Just a feature request for the next time you want to update every page template and add more server load :-) I do understand the work required so it is absolutely a nice to have feature.

Is it feasible to add a Date Format preference for members settings so that dates displayed on pages and lists are correct to a user's locale?
i.e. dd/mm/yyyy, or even yyyy/mm/dd instead of the unsortable mm/dd/yyyy?

I find that to try and manage my past story accesses and to be able to search and sort by rating/name/author etc, I copy and paste my Historical Access every couple of months into Excel so I can perform the above stuff. Having the date format different to my local format (dd/mm/yyyy) breaks or makes very tedious the effort of copying and pasting the table from each page of history.
Is there any other way to retrieve this history without having to manually copy and paste the web pages?
Cheers.

or even yyyy/mm/dd instead of the unsortable mm/dd/yyyy?

If Lazeez doesn't do what you're requesting, can't you simply change the date format in the Excel spreadsheet?

So when you copy the data to your Excel spreadsheet and the date column is mm/dd/yy, can't you reformat the column to yyyy-mm-dd?

I believe he does this already. Looking at my "Historical Story Accesses" page, I see the most recent story as having been read on 27/03/2022.
He uses some well known Javascript function and it uses the Locale in your browser.

I think your problem is not the dates as copied from SOL but how Excel handles them when you paste the data. Excel is notorious in sometimes doing what it THINKS you want and doesn't just accept what you enter, especially with dates. Like Switch said, your best bet is to just just change the date column format to what you want and hope Excel does what you want and doesn't randomly switch days and months.

To do this right, I would have to create a preference interface for the date format that any member would want (not as simple as it sounds) and then have to use that preference in a new download feature that probably only you would use.

Not exactly a good use of my time.

Additionally, the Advanced Search functionality allows you to search and sort your history, so you don't exactly need to do it via Excel.
