Sort sequence of stories

ian_macf ๐Ÿšซ

For some authors, the stories appear to be in sequence by title, although sometimes minor words like "in" are ignored, with only 'real' words used to determine the sequence. For other authors, I cannot work out the sequence at all.

What determines the sequence of stories ? Is it the author's preference perhaps ?

As an author I can establish my story display settings as Alphabetical or Custom and then setting my own story list order and that becomes the site default for listing my stories. Otherwise the sequence you will usually see is the Chronological posting of the first chapter of the story, depending on how your accounting settings are set up.

I'm not sure if the free accounts have the option, but the Premier Accounts have an Account setting option for Display Preferences where you can choose between several options which include Alphabetical, Story Date, Story Size, etc.

Within a series I can establish an order by how I write the titles - see my Clan Amir and Chaos Calls series for that method, or I can set an order by the way I add them to the series story listing. This can be easily re-ordered by simply de-listing the stories then adding them back in according to the new order I want them in.

Thank you. So, Alphabetical, Chronological or Custom. By author. No wonder I couldn't recognise a pattern.

ETA I have a free account. The Display Preferences do not include those options.

Correct, the sorting of story lists is a premier function, with the exception of the To Be Archived list for historical reasons. On that page you can see that the column titles are actually links, and clicking on any of the eight title links will sort the list in the selected order (click the same title link to reverse the order). For the author pages, the author chooses the initial sort order which you can then override with the sort links (with a premier membership). I'm a little surprised Lazeez hasn't left the Basic membership column titles as links but pointing to a 'This is a Premer function...' page

Well, I do not need, or even want, to be able to sort story lists, so the fact I can't with a free account is no hardship.

I just couldn't recognise any consistent pattern to the sequence of stories in a list. And, for better or for worse, my brain looks for patterns.
