Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Cross platform inconsistency, maybe.

solreader50 🚫

I'm posting this seeking clarification on whether this is my setting error or a site feature.

Let's say that I read a story on my tablet and at the end I give it a score. My tablet then "knows" that I have read that story and if I get to the end again, it "knows" what score I gave it. .

Now, if I turn to my PC, and bring up the site, my PC does not appear to "know" that I have read the story previously. But it does know that I gave the story a score.

Is this the expected cross-platform behaviour or am I doing something wrong? I'm not too bothered as this is in the minor incomvenience category of problems.

If you're relying on the link color change to figure out whether you've read a story or not, then yes, the PC is completely separate from your tablet and won't show the same color. The tablet changes the color of the link because it's saved in the history of visited links.

However, a feature of premier service is the green/grey dots. The dot is from the site, so the dot should be grey on both to indicate a read story.

There is no reasonable way for the site to transfer history from your PC to your tablet or vice versa, so you need to rely on the dots which are provided exactly for this reason.

Thanks for the explanation on the dots. They had puzzled me for some time. And apologies for my brainfart. Of course it is the browser that "knows" I've visited and address. Your work and patient explanations are much appreciated.

Bug report to Google? I'm sure Chrome "knows" what you have read, and when you read it.

Firefox does too, but you need to sync browser history.
