Happening with both StoriesOnline.net and anonsol.net
Every function / feature affected.
Many Pages fail / timeout on first request
Wait time 20 to 30 secs for page requests that are successful first time.
No other sites or internet content affected.
No bandwidth issues - Stable at 97 down and 45Up.
No PC Issues.
Nothing on the servers is causing any such thing. If it were with the site's servers then everybody would suffer.
The load on the server is normal and the response time is great for any location I tested.
So, I don't know what could be causing such a lag for you.
ISP's DNserver down/overloaded? ISTR having a very similar problem accessing Easynews, which was down to Virgin Media's domain name servers being flakey; EN published their own network DNS IP and using that restored the speeds even though it meant DNS queries made a trip over the pond. Check by temporarily configuring your internet connection to use a different DNS, e.g. Cloudfare (1.1.1.1), Google (8.8.8.8).
I haven't experienced that from either my desktop or smart phone. The response time for pages to load has been normal for me ... which is normally very fast. I even submitted a chapter revision earlier without any issues.
No SOL site issues here (Australia), now or then.
But i'm not using storiesonline.net- just storiesonline.net direct.

As you may have heard Facebook and the Govt here in Oz are having a pissing contest. It may be that there is some collateral damage springing from all of that.
If I find anything interesting I will pass it on.
As I mentioned SOL is the only online content provider of mine affected so far.

Technically the pissing contest is between Mark Zuckerberg(Facebook) and Rupert Murdock(News Corp). Murdock is just using the Oz government as a weapon against Zuckerburg.

Ok after doing everything local PC and LAN EG
Checks on drivers and currency of them, system update status, firewall rules and any changes, my ISP connection using different speed tests etc, and a few others only known to Geeks like me there was no effect.
However 2.5 hrs later it now magically takes only 5 secs for pages to respond and load. That's 50% improvement and normal for me is around 2 secs so it's not for away from being resolved.
A little more patience may be all that's needed for some more cyber magic to do its mysterious stuff.
