I would like the ability to exclude an author from search results

Reluctant_Sir ๐Ÿšซ

If I want to search for a specific topic and exclude an author, there is not really any way to do so except by making that author a favorite and excluding all favorites.

"I've already read all of Joe's work, but he's so prolific, it is hard to find anyone else who does X."

Additionally, it would be nice to be able to search by a partial author name for all those stories people forget.

"Yeah... it had Martians and the author was Pete something!"

So... the ask:

Would it be possible to include a filter to the search that can include or exclude an author, by pattern?

The author field in advanced search is already a pattern match, so you are asking for an exclude option on that field?

Go the author's page and click 'Exclude'. They will be excluded from all listings except the home page stream.

It sounds to me like he wants a exclude from this one search, not a permanent exclude.

For a single exclude everybody will have to use a mental filter, not a site-provided one.

The form is already complicated. Adding yet another field for some way to exclude one or more authors from the results will add to the complication.

No worries. I figured it was a long-shot, but thought I would ask.

Don't forget we have the option of using a search-engine such as Google (do you want that in your search history?) or Duckduckgo (what search history?).
As an example:

site:storiesonline.net "budgie sex" -"Tom Land"

Would do a search on this site excluding Tom Land, of course since budgies have a life expectancy of 2-7 years site rules preclude that search actually finding anything.

Not necessarily.

Lazeez had been bugged on the forum with requests to authorize characters that look like prepubescent humans but are really ancient.

He's rightly, in my opinion, said no to these.

I recently went in the other direction (I cleared this with Lazeez in a private message) adding a character who is an anthropomorphic animal. She is sexually mature, and judged by human standards would appear to be 18-21, but she was born as a normal animal and is technically only 8.

Lazeez said this was okay as long as the character didn't act childish, which isn't the target. If I've done it right she should come off as somewhat animalistic, not human childish.

ETA:

And in any case, if animal sex were judged by human standards, nearly all bestiality stories would technically violate the no sex under 14 rule.

15 human years equals the first year of a medium-sized dog's life. Year two for a dog equals about nine years for a human. And after that, each human year would be approximately five years for a dog.

A horse year is equal to 6 1/2 human years for the first 3 years of the horse's life. At the horse age of three the equivalent changes and is approximately 5 years to man. From 4 the horse year equivalency changes to 2 1/2 years.

@Dinsdale

since budgies have a life expectancy of 2-7 years

"In captivity, budgerigars live an average of five to eight years, but life spans of 15โ€“20 years have been reported. The life span depends on breed, lineage, and health, being highly influenced by exercise and diet." - Wikipedia (spit!)

They are generally okay on topics that are not political or otherwise highly controversial.
