Web interface for editing stories or uploading new versions?

wikman.karl 🚫

I have only one story posted on the site, but a rather hefty one at 27 chapters. The thing is, a very important bit of formatting got lost when I uploaded it, and I would like to edit it.

I used line breaks to show when a dialogue shifts from one speaker to the next, which worked well in my word processor, but resulted in a jumbled mess where one paragraph would contain dialogue from several characters in the published version here.

How do I go about fixing the issue?

Did you use paragraph styles in the original text? Did you use the new paragraph or line return command in the originals text - they are not the same although they will often look the same in a word processor. However, I strongly suggest you read these two guides first

Then see what you can do to amend the file to upload.

If you are posting HTML files, it might be a good idea to inspect the HTML file in your browser before posting.

I had a recent incident where I posted a new chapter and there was an extra blank line in the middle of one character's dialog after posting. It didn't show in my WP software, even when I used the WP to open the HTML file, but when I opened the HTML file with my browser the extra blank line was there.

There are more stories where that happens, a paragraph break where none should be. They are easy to miss when editing but fortunately they are also easy to correct if you read html versions like I do.
Good advice to check the html version because they are difficult to see in a Word document.
