I got it on the login screen when I paused for a couple of seconds (literally) to enter a five letter answer in my newspaper crossword before entering my password on the screen then pressing send.

I implemented brute force mitigation into the log in system. One measure is that you have 90 seconds between the time you load the form from the site and submitting it.
When that happens, then simply reload the form and fill it again.

It's a shame the malevolent types force you to take such measures.
I probably exceeded the limit between requesting the login page and selecting en e-mail address, of which Chrome seems to have a choice of several.

It is. In fact if it gets any worse you might have to use both hands to type with. Faster and if you learn to behave, far less risk of a sticky keyboard...
Although how you make it last for 90 seconds... Publish a how-to and make millions...!!
