If the author allows messages you can already do that by going to the author page and the mail link on it.

This is by far the superior method of making suggestions, especially ones of proofreading or editorial nature. Public comments should normally be praise or historical information that expands the text.

Yes. This is a wonderful example of why I would have been the world's worst teacher.
To simplify:
I am an author.
I have written a story.
A reader has commented on the story.
For me to answer the comment as fully as it deserves would require my supplying information that might spoil the story for other readers.
