Go to the first non read chapter optiion

Maybe it has been addressed prior to this. If so, please archive in the cilindrical container...

It would be good to have a new option when accessing multichapter stories, pointing to the first unread chapter. Currently the options available are go-to-index-page or go-to-the-last-read-chapter. This last option is nearly the same, but when you are accessing through a low throughput wi-fi on a mobile, it would help save some of the unavoidable frustration, if it makes readily available what you want to read..

Just an idea.

After so much time having the site, it has shown me that most people go back to the last read chapter, hence the default.

But for people like you, we have the 'bookmark next chapter' at the bottom of each chapter.

So when you stop reading, click that link and the next time you open the story again, it jumps over the last read chapter.

I'll see if the logic is simple to implement what you're asking for.

Stupid suggestion, but having the 'default' next read behavior as a user-selectable setting in their user options makes sense. However, it's not a high-priority request.

Sure. Rather than having multiple "next read" screen options, why not simply add an option to their User Settings, which specifies which chapter they most often visit (last, next or 'newest'). That seems a more straight forward option, which both simplifies the process, as well as making it user controlled.

Currently, the option in the preferences is Go to Index or 'Go to last Chapter Read'. I guess I'll add a third option 'Go to first Not Read'. Although, I need to revamp how things are saved and retrieved to do that. Someday.

Do you really need to?

When I get to the end of a chapter in a story I'm reading, I click on next chapter. Then I decide if I want to keep reading or not. So if I'm done for the time being, the next time I bring up the story it brings me to the "last chapter read" which is really the "first not read." I assumed everyone did that.

I can speak only for myself as a reader, but I don't need you to change it at all. With the present options, I don't have any trouble finding where I stopped reading. Sometimes, I skip back to Chapter 1 from a later chapter and that makes me lose how far I've read, but I can't think of anything you could do to correct my stupidity.

Most comments seem to be about completed stories, eg. 'Bookmark next chapter', but don't work for serials in progress.

When reading a serial as it is posted, the option to go to first Net Read chapter would be helpful.

That's what the 'Bookmark Next Chapter' does. It works on an in-progress serial when you reach the last chapter. When a new chapter is posted after you click that link, you jump to the new chapter. The request here is to make this 'Bookmark next chapter' optionally automated.

I had missed the bookmark next chapter link. I'd been distracted by the bigger Edit bookmark link immediately below the text.

Does Bookmark next chapter holdvthe setting for the story or need re-setting as later chapters are read?

I would also appreciate it being automated.

The bookmark next chapter is designed for a single use. It allows you to tell the site 'I finished this chapter but not going further. Next time skip to the next one'.
