Any chance we could get a theme for SOL which was visually compatible with 'Dark Mode' in MacOS Mojave?

There already is one. Now I'm not sure how you get to it from other pages, but if you go to the home page and select the New Stories link to bring up the list of new stories on the right, just above the story list and below the banner menus is a little orange box with the word Settings beside it. Click on the word Settings to open a window.
The Account Info and Preferences settings window is now visible and about a third of the way down is a dropdown box with the title Listings Theme on its left. Click on the box to have a choice of:
Classic
Modern
Minimalist
Dark Modern
select the one you want by clicking on it and then click on save theme
I did some more playing.
You can also personalize how SoL displays by clicking on the My Account link in the top right corner to open the account settings page. Half of the way down is the Preferences section. The second option in that is the Listings section and if you click on the Change link on the right it takes you to the page I mentioned above.
The third option is the Story Display Settings and clicking on the Change link will open a window which shows the current display style. Click on the Edit button to open a window where you can change the colors of text, the background, and the surrounding area. You can also change the font, font size, and text width area as well as a few other items. While there are only seven colors you can click on there is a box where you can enter the color cube code in hexidecimal for any color you know the code for. Then click save changes and use what you want.
I started on a dark mode but quickly realized that my code contains a lot of incompatible inline html formatting that a very thorough rework of the site's styles/themes and underlying code would be required.
I guess somehow the dark mode theme selector snuck into the production code. It's not ready yet and it will be a while.

Thanks for the update and I'll wait patiently. :-)

you could try playing with the display colours for a personalized set up that's closer to what you want. My second post tells you how to do that.

If you want to give me some details as to what sort of result you want to look at in regards to colors I can play with the codes to find some hexidecimal color codes to do what you want, or close to it.

If you want to duplicate colors, you can also send me a screen shot and I can match the colors for you. Photoshop and the various similar programs allow you to identify specific colors, so it's fairly straightforward. I've yet to try "Dark mode" on my Mac laptop, so I haven't played with it yet.

You can't freely choose a hex color in the SOL settings, just the colors choices that are displayed. I tried it, didn't work.
Fundamentally what I'm looking for is something akin to MacOS Mojave's 'Dark Mode' which is, dark background with white text. I can make that work for the stories, but didn't see how to make it work for the entire site, which is my goal. If I missed something, please let me know.
If you go into your browser settings there should be one for Appearance with settings for colours where you can select a theme it has, set your own choices, or set it to use the system colours. Then you can usually set when you want the browser to apply those choices, and one is to override the website colours with your choices.

I already have Chrome set to a 'dark' theme. Beyond that, trying to set some kind of style sheet makes a mess of most pages.
I once created a web page for one of my stories that had black text on a black background. The text could only be read by selecting it.
Is that dark enough?

I accidentally did that playing with the options for MacOS Dark Mode. :-)
