Most forums if you click somebody's name next to their post you get their profile page, with whatever personal info they chose to put in, a link to send them a private message, etc. Don't know if that's needed here but since a lot of us have author pages it might be nice to click on a name and be taken to the stories that person has written. Most forums I deal with this by putting my story list page link in the signature, but that's something else you may not want to deal with.
That was another strong feature in GGs, the ability to take a conversation private. For example, if some author requests and editor, or asks for assistance, it's easier to respond to them privately so you don't give out too much information. This is especially true if you don't want to publicly expose story details.
As for author profiles, I'd be happy if clicking an author's name took you to the author's SOL page, or even to their blog. There's really no sense offering new services when the old ones work fine.
And another vote for a "respond directly" button (taking the conversation private).

Thanks, Lazeez. I'll often send a personal reply via GG when I don't want everyone to know personal details. Often that means story details, but sometimes it relates to private details in authors/readers lives.
