login issues

Riceeyes

Am I the only one having this problem?

I go to my library page and navigate around SciFurz's page and when I go to a story it needs my login again to get past the preview. I click on home and it takes me to the login page.

Kinda strange and annoying.

This happens in firefox, chrome, and on my smart phone.

I had that happen to me twice, and in each case it happened because I'd accidentally switched to Private Mode and had an issue the cookies due to be in private mode. I'm still not sure how I had some tabs in private mode and some not, but the cookies didn't swap between them.

No, it happened to me too, repeatedly. That was around the same time that ASSTR suddenly became 'unreachable' (i.e. wouldn't accept log-ins anymore), so I was suspecting a large 'denial of services' attack against a 3rd party affecting a variety of 'story' sites.

We've made a change to the system and it's having issues with some cookies. And we made a fix today.

Hopefully today's fix will get rid of most of those issues.

Although, I would appreciate it if you all could report anomalies such as story counts and anything that seems to be falling behind your activity on the site.

So, as usual, I managed to introduce a whale-sized bug into the system despite all the testing that I've done. I guess there is no substitute to trial by fire for new code.

In the move to something called Sessions in PHP, I mangled the logic in a way that caused a good chunk of users to keep having to log in.

Anyway, I think I finally managed to find the frustrating bug and squashed it.

Sorry for the frustration everybody.

We don't mind, especially since you always manage to resolve these issues so quickly (long before most of us ever notice anything wrong)!

10Q for the wonderful site and service you provide.

Alas, now (Thursday afternoon, EST) it seems worse than ever. I'm still signed in, but it keeps telling me that I need to 'fix my pseudonym', refuses to recognize what I've already accessed, clear my 'read' mail messages, or other basic functions.

It'll act up like that for several minutes, then suddenly it's as if nothing happened and it'll operate for another few minutes, before it acts like I'm some stranger visiting the site for the first time again.

Fixed yet another bug. Did it help?

It seems to have, but it was intermittent before, at best, so I'll give you the all clear tomorrow if I don't notice anything more. But knowing your technical expertise, I'll assume it's fixed and working perfectly!
