Feature request

Al Bywater ๐Ÿšซ

Is it possible to have a list of sub-forum links in a column on the left, like the lists you have on the general SOL pages. That way it'd be easier to switch between the sub-forums instead of having to go back to the main page all the time.

I like the divisions for the sub-boards you have so far.

This post also gives you a test of this function.

With mobile becoming dominant on the site (currently at 52% of clients accessing SOL), I must design things to work best on mobile. And to make things simpler for me, if I make it work the same way on desktop and mobile the better.

I spend quite a bit of time thinking about implementation of features on the site that caters to both approaches. It's never easy and most times requires rethinking things multiple times.

I'll see if I can come up with a way to do it with that design constraint in mind.

thanks, I really hate the process of having to either backtrack all the time or open multiple windows.

I use both formats on the main site, but mobile more often than desktop (about 70/30). I can certainly see where writing all the code twice can be problematic. If you can make a single format work for both mobile and desktop, then "more power to ya!"

Many mobile friendly sites use a right hand column for this type of menu which folds down below the text on a mobile phone and shows on the right on a larger screen.

I also saw one that was able to tell the screen width and changed its appearance to that of a drop down on a narrow screen so you could navigate easily on on both a wide and narrow screen.

Here are some links to other ways to do similar things.

@rochek

I was suggesting to have it on the left simply because it would mimic what SOL did on it's home page. However, I do think it needs to be there somewhere, and should have setting to allow the user to have it hide away or stay up and visible if that's what they want on their desktop.

I can understand wanting to make things easier for those using a mobile device, but I never use a mobile for this type of stuff, and if it becomes too awkward to use because it's too optimized for mobile I'll simply stop using it, like I've done with some other sites and forums in the past, make it too difficult and I see using it.

I am SO glad the forum has escaped from Google.

I am SO glad the forum has escaped from Google.

So am I. AS nice as their html coding was, it took SO long to load, and of course, we all know that Google analyzed everything we said, looking for new marketing opportunities. Since much of what we read here is 'erotic content', I think readers will be happier to remove it from Google's greedy hands.

I don't understand you people who went to the Google Groups web page to read the old forum, I didn't any of the problems you all describe reading it in e-mail.

Now for the test. It indeed works, than you Lazeez.
