Reader's comments on stories

cap007 ๐Ÿšซ

I read the latest chapter of a continuing story. For the first time (on any story I have read) it had reader's comments at the bottom of the page. Is this available for all stories? If so, how do you see them or turn it on? I enjoy reading comments. It gives me a different perspective, and clue me on something I may have missed or overlooked in the story. If this subject has already been answered, please direct me to the appropriate thread. Thank you.

Each author decides, on a per-story basis, to allow comments or not. I have turned the on. Many have not.

@Michael Loucks

I have turned [it] on. Many have not.

I still don't understand how to do that. The few instructions that I have seen don't make sense to me.

Quite simple really.

1) Go to your Authors and Editors Resources page
2) Click on Manage Stories
3) Click on the story you want to enable comments
4) Click Show Public Comments (It will change to Hide Public Comments)

To disable comments, click on Hide Public Comments

Hope that helps.

2) Click on Manage Stories

I don't find a setting on "Manage Stories," but there is one on "Show Stats" if you click on each story. Is there a way to change the comments setting on all stories at once? Right now it looks like one-by-one.

When you select the story on the 'Manage Stories' page, it's practically the same as the 'show stats' page.

You might want to ask Lazeez but I think it is one-by-one.

Not at this time, it's one by one.

Thanks, Capt Zapp. Now it works for me.

Thanks,

You're welcome.

This service was introduce by Lazeez a few weeks back, but each author has to activate for each story as they wish. A few of us have activated them, but many authors aren't even aware it's available, especially those who aren't very active right now.

Thanks everyone. I thought I was missing out.

The story comment is a new feature, and authors are reluctant to turn it on for a variety of reasons. Primarily, we're all nervous about trolls, although the site is relatively free of them, they do show up occasionally (as in the 1-voters). On the other hand, we need to keep track of comments so we can respond (either to the comments or respond if they turn ugly or abusive). Thus they're unlikely to turn on voting for older stories (I turned on one for my second to last story (no longer posting) and haven't received a single comment on any of the three sites).

It'll take everyone time to adjust to the feature.

Haha, really? Just about every other amateur erotica site out there has reader comments that are on by default. Sounds great, I'll go turn them on for my stories right now.

Ah, one question though. Do we get any notification of when a new comment is posted? Either by e-mail or when we look at the Author Resources page?

Your question was already answered, farther up on the page, but you'll see the number of comments on your author stats page for any stories you've activated. You just click on the number, and it takes you to the comments. It's a nice way of responding to reader comments (the disinclination of authors (also discussed extensively above) is due to the persistence of one-star trolls on the site flagging any story they disagree with. That's why, for now, Lazeez has an option opt-in and the ability to opt-out at any time (certain stories, notably MM or diaper) tend to get trashed, so many authors with previous encounters with trolls are reluctant to opt-in completely.

I found suggestions in the comment section of a current story that have merit.

First, Harddaysknight, had a great comment about the comments:
"The comments transfer to the next chapter rather than staying with the chapter about which they were made. That will make some comments difficult to reconcile in a few weeks. After another 50 weeks or so, the comments will fill several pages."

This makes sense. Could the comments stay with the chapter they were intended?

Next, posidous, had a good suggestion:
" really do not like the comments at the end of the story. I think they would be better served as a click on opinion. It is disconcerting to want to go to the end of the story but end up at the end of the comments. Say a button labeled "Read Comments"
Would this be a viable option?

My question, could the comments be dated especially on continuing stories? I get aggravated reading comments then realizing I have already read that group of comments several times.

I've also heard from frustrated readers who accidentally posted the same message three times, but were unable to delete them. A delete option on messages, at least your own messages, would be a handy addition.
