I have Crumbly Writer's story The Cuckoo's Progeny in my library.
He completed the story on chapter 27. After I read the original chapter 27, it dropped off my active serials list as expected.
Then he removed chapter 27 and added a cast list in it's place.
Now the story is back in my active serial list, it's not dropping off and the yellow highlight in the update notes column indicating new unread chapters isn't going away, despite the fact that I have read the cast list.
Did you manually check the 'Show in Active Serials' for the story at any point? That could be it.
To force remove it from the active serials list, click the '"' next to the story, then click the 'Edit Bookmark' button and in that form uncheck the 'Show in Active Serials' box and click save.

No, but I've never manually altered the settings on any of my bookmarks before.

Okay, that fixed the issue, but I'm still confused about why it happened in the first place.

I tested it after the fact and it worked as expected.
It maybe that since part 27 changed (its id changed) while remaining at #27 confused the library as the library remembers the last part read's id number.
It's probably my fault. Not only did I yank the preview, I also delete the original cast list and repost it. Listing it as the first chapter means it's visible for the entire story, but moving it puts it where it belongs (at the end of the story), and also eliminates all the false read-ahead download counts. However, it modification triggers the 'new addition' feature.
